Music is taught right across the school, from Nursery to Year 6. Your child will develop an understanding of the different areas of Music such as notation, composition and instrumentation.
Music is taught to inspire and promote musical thinking, providing the opportunity for our children to explore their own musical talents whilst also building their core knowledge of the subject. It is taught discretely across the school, enhanced and supported by our digital music service and professional musicians.
These discrete lessons enable the children to engage with a broad range of musical genres and forms, whilst also proving the outlet in which they will become familiar with different instruments. Music lessons are designed to be both practical and theoretical, supporting growth in skill and a more rounded understanding of Music. Children are exposed to a broad range of music from around the globe in accordance with the rich diversity seen at our school. A bank of high-quality resources and instruments allow all children to practically engage with the subject and to explore different sounds and tones.
Opportunities that children at Tollgate Primary School have to explore musicality include weekly singing lessons and whole class instrument tuition (melodica and ukulele). The culmination of these are termly performances for parents/carers, which aim to increase children’s self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
